Project Overview
ABB Electrification, a global leader in electrical distribution and management solutions, faced fragmented workflows caused by multiple ECAD tools and regional ERP systems. The project aimed to unify and optimize these processes by integrating ECAD tools into the Windchill PLM system. This cross-platform solution enabled automated and traceable BOM generation, improved collaboration through centralized data management, and enhanced lifecycle management across manufacturing sites.
Despite our diverse requirements, we successfully defined a common data model, automatically generated by the integration during project up loads. Native and derived data now reliably support procurement and production – helping prevent incorrect orders and costly mistakes.
Solution
ABB Electrification partnered with XPLM to implement a unified ECAD integration within its global Windchill PLM system. The new solution connects over 70 ECAD users across multiple sites, enabling seamless collaboration, automated BOM generation, and harmonized processes. A scalable, tool-independent integration was developed to meet local needs while ensuring data consistency and full traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
